*kicks external CD/DVD drive*
That'll learn me to buy electronics on eBay, I guess.

This is the weirdest thing I've ever seen. This thing likes my DVDs just fine. Plays them, no problem.

CDs? Nope. Not music, not data.

This makes it incredibly inconvenient when I'm trying to install software. Like, the Word software I finally caved and bought.

Nope, it's just Word. I can read Excel spreadsheets with OpenOffice, though.

Of course, since I can't get Word to frakking install, I'm still no better off than I was before. Even when the drive decides "Oh, hey, there's a CD in there!" it hangs up about a third of the way through the install.
