Okay, I know what function not!Harmony serves for not!Harry. She's his anchor, the eye of his storm. She helps him get calm when life threatens to overwhelm him.
This is a fine and shiny thing.
What function does he serve for her? Not only that, but what function does she serve for herself? I need something more for her than to be not!Harry's girlfriend. She needs to be a person in her own right, not just a foil for another character. I mean, I get that he's funny and sweet and kind and sort of...not "helpless," not that, he's a war veteran, for crying out loud, so "helpless" is the exact wrong word here--but if he didn't have that anchor I was talking about before, he'd be in a lot worse place than he is right now because he'd be an emotional basket case. And so that, I think, gets the "caretaker" instinct in her firing pretty hard, because he needs her. She kisses his hair and reminds him to breathe when it gets bad.
But what does she need? Is it enough that he needs her? I'm thinking no, but it might be enough for me, but I'm emotionally stunted, so what do I know?
Of course, it may be moot if I kill her off, although I don't think I'm going to do that, at least not yet. But that gets into the whole "fridging" issue, which I don't want to do. So, first I have to give her, like, her own thing, make you love her for her own sake and not just what she does for not!Harry...and then kill her off. Yeah.
GAAAAAAAH. Writting iz hard, mon.
Not!Harry, you bastard. This isn't supposed to be All. About. You.
